Discover the tradition of Portuguese tiles in a creative and hands-on workshop in Porto, guided by professional artists and teachers with years of experience in tile painting.

The session begins with a brief and engaging introduction to the history of Portuguese azulejos (tiles), their origins, and their lasting role in shaping the architectural and cultural identity of Porto and Lisbon over the centuries.

You’ll receive a white ceramic tile and can choose from an exclusive selection of traditional tile patterns carefully selected and documented by our team directly from the streets of Porto, which you can replicate, or create your own original design. Your instructor will guide you throughout the painting process, making it accessible for beginners and enjoyable for all ages.

Throughout the workshop, enjoy Port wine, juice, water, coffee, and a selection of sweet and savory snacks, while relaxing, socializing, and painting. After the session, you take your hand-painted souvenir of your time in Portugal.

This activity is ideal for all occasions: solo travelers, families, bachelor and bachelorette parties, team-building events, or simply enjoying time with friends. Talk to us to personalize your experience.

The tile painting workshop is provided in English.

Due to limited space, additional individuals who were not included in your booking may be present at the workshop. In this way, you will experience Portuguese culture and cross paths with others in a real exchange of experiences. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Workshop program

Program:
- A brief introduction to the history of tile making in Portugal and Porto;
- Tile making techniques/Importance of Majolica;
- Simulation of tile painting to your liking or with a design from a traditional Porto tile or freehand drawing.

The piece will be ready for collection 30/45 minutes after the end of the workshop.

Location

The workshop takes place on the ground floor of Domus Arte, at Rua da Bainharia, n.º 135, Porto, a space entirely dedicated to workshops and art exhibitions.

A Perfect Bridal Shower Soirée

My best girl got married in Porto, and I wanted to do something different for her bridal shower, something memorable and a little out of the ordinary. This tile painting workshop turned out to be the perfect choice.

Our hosts (I wish I could remember their names!), a lovely young lady and gentleman were incredibly patient and kind. They walked us through the history of Portuguese tile painting, helped us choose our stencils, and guided us with so much care and enthusiasm the entire time.

We were a group of 15 girls, and everyone had the best time channeling their inner artist. From booking the workshop to finalizing the location, every detail was seamless. The hosts were so accommodating even when we were running late (wrangling 15 girls is no small feat!). They also created such a warm space for us to celebrate our beautiful bride-to-be.

If you’re considering this workshop, especially with a big group, it’s a solid yes from me. It’s fun, creative, and truly one of the most memorable experiences we had in Porto.

A fabulous time

My family and I had a fabulous time at the tile painting. We were a little late but welcomed and quickly helped to get up to speed. Our teacher was lovely, gave very clear instructions and interesting information about tile painting and it's history. We all came away with great tiles even though we all had zero skills to begin with. Would definitely recommend!
